Trey Avery

Senior Communications Assistant

Trey Avery joined K&A in July 2006 as Senior Communications Assistant. A graduate of Western Washington University in Bellingham, Trey received a Bachelor of Arts in American Cultural Studies through Fairhaven College, focusing his studies on GLBT studies and community health. He was chosen as the Outstanding Graduate for the program in 2006.

As an undergraduate, Trey conducted research on the experiences of GLBT students at Western and wrote his thesis on the utilization of social networking websites for HIV prevention on college campuses. He recently wrote an article with Dr. Richard Keeling & Dr. Andrew Wall titled “Social Networking, Student Development, and Institutional Policy in the Post-Digital Age.” While attending Western Washington, Trey worked with Prevention and Wellness Services as a peer health educator. He was a student coordinator of the Ally Building Network, an organization that worked to promote community health by promoting social justice within the campus community. In 2005, he attended the Leadership Training Institute led by the National Coalition Building Institute. With this training, he helped lead diversity and community building workshops for staff, faculty, administrators, and students at Western.

Trey grew up on the Isle of Palms, a barrier island located near Charleston, South Carolina.
