Daniel C. Silverman, MD, MPA

Senior Director

Dr. Silverman earned his Bachelor of Arts degree majoring in psychology and pre-medical studies at the University of Michigan, completed medical training at Northwestern University School of Medicine, residency training in psychiatry at Boston’s Beth Israel Hospital and Harvard Medical School. He received his Masters in Public Administration degree in 1995 from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University and is a graduate of the Boston Psychoanalytic Institute’s psychoanalytic training program.

Most recently, Dr. Silverman has served as Chief Medical Officer of Princeton University and Executive Director of University Health Services. In his role as Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Silverman has worked closely with members of the University’s senior leadership including the Board of Trustees’ Student Health, Life and Athletics Committee, the Offices of the Vice President for Campus Life, President, Provost, General Counsel, Dean of the Faculty, Dean of the College, Deans of Undergraduate and Graduate Students and the Council of Masters of the Residential Colleges to create coalitions dealing with important university health, residential life and safety issues. This work has included the creation of a President’s Task Force on Health and Well-Being; facilitation of novel approaches to reducing high risk alcohol use; implementation of suicide, dating violence and sexual harassment prevention programs; provision of culturally competent healthcare to an increasingly diverse student body and employee workforce; and shaping the University’s response to public health challenges (e.g., campus emergency preparedness and pandemic flu planning).

Prior to coming to Princeton University, Dr. Silverman served as Vice President for Clinical Effectiveness at BJC HealthcareSM, Washington University School of Medicine’s healthcare system partner in St. Louis. In that role, he was responsible for building coalitions of departmental chairs, healthcare providers and administrators to develop and implement population-based healthcare programs across the system’s continuum of care.
